Bi-weekly tips, habits, and practice guide for building a better back—improving poor posture that is making you look (& feel) old.

GOOD MORNING!!

Happy Tax Day! By now you’ve either filed your taxes… or you’re pretending the deadline doesn’t exist. No judgment.

But there’s another tax you may be paying every single day - that no accountant can help you with.

It’s the hidden energy tax of poor posture.

Every time your body compensates for tightness, weakness, or misalignment, it uses extra energy just to hold you upright. That afternoon exhaustion you feel? It may not be “just getting older.” It may be your body working overtime in all the wrong places and quietly sending you the bill. Yuck.

Today we’re looking at where that energy goes and what you can start doing to stop overpaying.

CORE MOVES

The Hidden Energy Tax: Where Your Body is Overspending

Your body is designed to move efficiently. When things are balanced and aligned, movement feels lighter and more natural. But when poor posture and compensation patterns take over, your body has to work much harder to do everyday tasks. Think of it as “energy leaking” out of your system all day long.

Here are a few of the biggest places that leak happens:

Tight hip flexors from sitting:
When the front of the hips gets tight, the glutes often stop doing their share of the work. They basically shut off. Then the lower back steps in to compensate for the work your butt is supposed to be doing. Now your back muscles are working overtime to stabilize your pelvis and keep you upright. Like I always say, “Low back is a really good guy and will do all the work if you let it.”

Forward head posture:
When your head drifts forward, your neck and upper back have to support more load than they were meant to.

For every inch your head drifts forward, you add roughly 10 pounds of pressure to your neck and upper back. Your trapezius muscles become chronically tense, burning energy around the clock just to keep your head from falling forward.

Those muscles stay tense for hours, draining energy and often leading to stiffness and fatigue.

Rounded shoulders:
When the chest tightens and the shoulders roll forward, the upper back has to overwork just to hold you up. At the same time, your rib cage can’t fully expand → breathing becomes less efficient → so you get less of the oxygen your body needs to stay energized.

Most of this happens unconsciously. But by the end of the day, you wonder why you’re exhausted when you “didn’t even to that much.” Your body feels the cost. Less oxygen = less energy. It’s that simple.

INNER SHIFT

You Can’t Fix What You Don’t Notice

Most people try to improve posture by forcing themselves to “sit up straight.” That usually lasts about 90 seconds.

It doesn’t work because you’re trying to fight a pattern you haven’t actually identified yet.

The real shift is awareness.

Before you can change anything, you have to notice what your body is doing without judging it or forcing it. Just observe.

This is exactly what Phase 1 of the Peak Posture System™ is built around: learning to find the patterns that are costing you energy. Poor posture often feels normal because it’s familiar. But familiar doesn’t always mean functional.

Awareness comes first. Then change becomes possible.

WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON

Your Energy Audit - 3 Check-Ins Today

This week, your practice is simple: do a quick energy audit on your body three times today.

Set an alarm for mid-morning, after lunch, and late afternoon.

At each check-in, ask yourself:

Where am I tight right now?
Scan your neck, shoulders, lower back, and hips. Do not try to fix anything yet. Just notice.

Where is my head?
Is it stacked over your shoulders, or drifting forward toward your screen? Gently draw it back into alignment without forcing.

How am I breathing?
Is your breath shallow and high in your chest, or fuller through your ribs? Take three slow breaths and feel the difference.

That’s it. Three check-ins per day.

No mat. No equipment. No workout clothes. Just awareness.

This is the kind of body connection we build in Phase 1 of the Peak Posture System™ because you cannot strengthen what you haven’t connected to yet.

RESOURCE SPOTLIGHT

Ready to Stop Paying the Hidden Tax?

Everything we've talked about today → the energy drain, the compensation patterns, the posture habits you can't see yet → this is exactly what the Peak Posture System™ is built to fix. Phase 1 starts with learning to find what's been invisible: your patterns, your compensations, your body's story.

I'm building this system now and looking for a small founding group to build it with me. Founding members lock in $37/month for life (starts June 1), get access to all 3 phases as we build them, group coaching, and direct access to me as your guide.

WORTH KNOWING

What Happens If You Don’t Fix It?

When chronic tension becomes your baseline:

  • The tight lower back gets tighter.

  • The forward head drifts farther forward.

  • The compensation patterns build on each other until your body gets your attention through pain, stiffness, or lost mobility.

The good news? You’re already paying attention.

And that is where change begins.

What is the one spot in your body that always feels tense by 3 p.m.? Hit reply and tell me - I read every one.

Keep moving,
